7 Marathons on 7 Continents
First we knew about this challenge was when we were running our 2nd marathon on our 2nd continent! We had randomly run Oceania in Rotorua in 2010; and were in Greenland for 2012. The other marathon tourists were way ahead of us in the knowledge stakes and of course hearing about 7 marathons on 7 continents piqued our interest.
On returning to Australia I started looking into the challenge. I remember saying that it was a little disappointing to have done Europe (in Greenland) rather than in one of the more widely known European nations like France or Germany. I wasn’t sure I even wanted to do the challenge because the 7th continent was Antarctica, and after Greenland I thought I’d done my time on snow and ice!
Imagine my surprise (and the surprise of tour agencies when I told them) to discover that Greenland actually belongs to the North American continent! We’d done North America and didn’t even realise.
And thus the planning began and this is how I eventually ran 7 marathons on 7 continents!
